Visual Arts Unit
The Visual Arts Unit in Northbrooks Secondary School aims to enable every child to be visually literate and to appreciate art.
Being visually literate, our students are able to:
- Observe, perceive and interpret (make meaning to what they see)
- Visually communicate and express their experiences/ideas through art making
Students will be able to:
- See the value and recognise the relevance of art in their lives.
- Articulate their interpretation of artworks.
The Visual Arts Unit takes part actively in Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Art Exhibition. We are happy to have our school’s participation in the art exhibition this year. Our works will be available for viewing in a printed catalogue and E-catalogue. Here are our 2016’s entries:
Title: The Return to Nature
Medium: Fused Glass
This stained glass piece shows parrots in a lush waterfall setting. While parrots are usually reared as pets in the urban environment, this artwork imagines the parrots returned to a natural environment. Their colourful feathers contrast with the earthly colours to suggest nature as a much more free and enjoyable space for these creatures.

Title: Expressive Spaces
This artwork is a wooden structure done by 10 students. When we think of ‘space’, we think of our wonderland where each of our emotions can be expressed. Beyond referring to a physical place, this artwork that we have done tells people a different story in each box. We work together to complete it and achieve success.
