Service Learning

In line with the school’s vision of ‘Every Brooksian a Champion, Impacting the Community’, the school aims to provide meaningful learning experiences that will support students’ development as socially responsible citizens by contributing to the community. Through these learning experiences, it enables students to build important life skills such as resilience and collaboration.

The school's VIA framework is anchored on the school values [G.I.F.T.E.D. - Graciousness, Integrity, Fortitude, Teamwork, Empathy and Discipline] and the 5 Social-Emotional Domains [Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Management, Responsible Decision Making], based on MOE’s Framework for 21st Century Competencies and Student Outcomes.

Students participate in level-wide and school-wide VIA activities, which serve as platforms for them to acquire and demonstrate relevant knowledge, skills and values. These activities, coupled with the explicit teaching of the CCE curriculum, will develop all Brooksians to be Champions, who will impact the community and embody the 21st Century Competencies and Student Outcomes in the near future.

Students will show appreciation to internal stakeholders within the school community by designing cards with words of affirmation to show their gratitude.

Students will work with identified partners to meet the needs of the chosen beneficiary [internal or external].

- 2019: Organising block parties for residents in the community

- 2020: ‘Fight the Virus’ Challenge through videos, posters and songs for Brooksians and the Yishun community

Student-led Service Learning Projects

Using the Design Thinking approach, students will work with a target group of their choice to meet the needs of their chosen beneficiary.

- 2019: Working with selected beneficiary of their choice and designing items that will help to meet some of the needs of the beneficiary

- 2020: Designing items/proposing plans that will meet school needs to improve facilities for internal stakeholders within the school community

Advocacy Projects

Students will take the lead in sharing about World-SG events to Brooksians.

Students will carry out daily and termly cleaning activities in the classroom and the school canteen in order to inculcate in them a sense of responsibility and good life habits.

Community

Annual School Event: Recyclatron

All students take part in Recyclatron as part of the school’s environmental conservation programme. It is an annual school event in collaboration with NWCDC and NEA, where students and staff collect recyclable items from the neighboring residential blocks, as well as educate these residents on the need to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
